Bonfire safety

Summer is coming up soon, and one hallmark of summer is bonfires.  Under the right conditions, a bonfire is a summer rite of passage.  Without caution, though, a bonfire can quickly grow out of control.  Here are a few tips to keep things safe:

• Use a fire pit
• Avoid bonfires during windy conditions
• Avoid using lighter fluid or accelerants
• Wear non-flammable clothing and hard-soled shoes
• Have a fire extinguisher nearby
• Keep an eye on kids and pets
• Have a sober fire spotter if alcohol is involved in your celebration
• Make sure the fire is completely put out when you're done
